Christmas Holidays in Orlando (Pt2)

A good time was had by one and all.

One of the highlights of our trip was the visit to Disney's Hollywood Studios on Christmas day. Luke was mesmerized by the parade and we all were inspired by the "Festival of Dancing Lights". If you ever have an opportunity to see this during the holidays, you will not be disappointed.

Below is a short video with highlights of this spectacular experience.

Christmas Holidays

Greetings from Orlando. Well here we are, once again, in Orlando. This time for the Christmas Holiday. Cheryl and I are hosting the family. Sharon came up with us. Luke, Mark and Larissa came up yesterday and we are expecting Michael sometime today.

Kelly begins her adventure back to California on Friday. She and her beau are traveling to Santa Maria, Ca near the airforce base. We saw the remains of her home here in Gainesville just prior to packing it up ready for shipping.

This week should be interesting as we try to stuff 8 people into a six person condo. The plan is to use today to finish up the Christmas shopping and then do some "park hopping" the rest of the week.

New Life Adventure

Last Friday, I received a signifcant shock when the division that I had been part of at AT&T for the past 5 years was eliminated. My feelings went all over the place, from relief to despair as I face the prospect of finding work at age 55.

Many questions go through my mind. Am I up for it? Will someone want a person of my age? Will I have to move (again). Well, I do have many friends both within the community as well as outside the community. So, once again, time to "saddle up" and get on with it.

I think I will post updates here as I go through this process to document my steps and to share my thoughts and feelings as I move from "surplus" to employed.

A House Divided

Today after much stuffing and celebrating we prepare for the annual clash of two sports powerhouses, Florida State and Univeristy of Florida. These games have always been a great rivalry. However, with one son attendinging Florida State and a daughter and a daughter-in-law as Gator graduates, it does get to be a tad crazy here.

Today, we will be staying at our daughter's home to watch the game. So, it may be a little difficult to fully support the Seminoles, but my heart will be with both teams and I only pray for it to be a good game.

Obviously the Gators have the much better team on paper. They have destroyed nearly every opponent they have encountered over the past several weeks with scores north of 40 points and one that looked more like a basketball score than a football score with 70 points.

Still the Seminoles have been playing well lately. Their defence keeps improving and they are coming off the big Maryland win last week so who knows.

Whichever way it goes, one child will be thrilled and talking trash to the other for at least a year.

2008 Annual Turkey Outreach

On November 22nd, the 13th Annual McLean Bible Church/Adopt a Turkey Thanksgiving Outreach Project was held throughout the greater Washington DC area! The project provides Thanksgiving Dinners to less fortunate families in Washington, Virginia, and Baltimore. Turkey Outreach is a ministry of Frontline and McLean Bible Church in connection with Adopt a Turkey that works with close to 50 organizations to feed 7,500 families each Thanksgiving. McLean Bible Church partners with everyone from faith-based ministries and shelters to Easter Seals and county services to accomplish this task.

Below are a couple of videos that highlight this worthy endeavor.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Preparing for Marriage Alumni Reunion

Today, Cheryl and I hosted all of our Mentoree couples except Kent and Dawn who are just getting back from Hawaii and their honeymoon. Bruschetta was the watchword for the evening with our meal centered around this. We all had a great time and below are a few pics from this grand event. Many aspects of the recent weddings were shared amongst the group. The best stories involved forgotten passports and rings.

The evening was lovely and our guests were fantastic.

Visit from Jeff & Brenda

This august we had a wonderful visit from the Wylie's. Jeff and Brenda arrived in their hot Mustang convertable. We had a great couple of days. On day one we went to the Newsium in Washington DC. This is a fascinating place that is a collection of wonders.

This was followed by attending Nationals Stadium and watching the Nationals beat the Cincinnati Reds.

Here are a couple of videos that capture the days.

Michael Snowden's Unbelievable Catch

Here it is folks, the incredible grab that Mike made back in 2004 as a wide receiver for Southern Lehigh in a losing effort against Saucon Valley.
